Top 7 ways to prevent the spread of flu

Wednesday, June 17 2009

There are so many strains of the flu out there that it’s hard to know when and where it may strike. In addition to “traditional” flu strains, there has been the Swine Flu, which has been miserable for thousands of people. Here are some ways to prevent getting and spreading the flu, or to reduce its severity if you do contract it.

  1. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends a yearly flu shot. The flu vaccine protects against the three main flu strains that research indicates will cause the most illness during the flu season.
  2. Take Tamiflu. The CDC recommends antiviral drug oseltamivir, product name Tamiflu, for the Swine Flu. Tamiflu, available through reputable online pharmacies, can make the illness milder and may also prevent serious flu complications.
  3. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  5. Avoid close contact with sick people.
  6. If you get the flu, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
  7. Wash your hands often with soap and water. Hand-to-face contact is possibly the greatest way that illness is spread. Wash wash wash!
